With a number of birth control options at hand sex partners should be aware of the pros and cons of each alternative. There are some birth control methods that require no prescription and there are some that should not be used without prescription. It is necessary to educate yourself about the various alternatives. The pill is one of the commonly used alternatives that require a doctor’s prescription.

The Pill can cause very serious problems for some women, especially those who smoke as they are at a slight risk of high blood pressure, blood clots, heart attack and stroke. Doctors do not recommend pills to women who have high blood pressure or diabetes. According to doctors pills give warning signals for example severe abdominal pain or cramps; chest or stomach pain; shortness of breath; coughing up blood; severe headaches; pain, tingling, swelling or numbness in the leg; and blurred or temporary loss of vision. Therefore there is always some kind of risk associated with pills for those women who have some health problems. Although it is not the case with all yet it is safe to use condoms than pills when you know that a pill is causing problem.

There are women who are on oral contraceptives and have increased chances headaches, migraines and non-migraine. Some women complain about weight gain and other problems. Continuous use of Monthly-cycle birth control pill is not approved by the FDA. Therefore women wishing to take a pill should consult their gynecologist to make sure if it is safe for them or not.

The pill should be taken as directed by the physician. It should be taken regularly nearly the same time everyday. Many women forget to take pills regularly and as such it turns out to be ineffective. Although pills if taken correctly can be more than 99% effective yet it does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases.

If a woman wants to try pills then a prescription from a doctor is a must. The doctor will enquire about your health, family’s health, if you smoke or not and other related questions. It is only then the doctor will recommend a particular pill and tell you how to take it.

The male condom is a very old technique used as a birth control method. They are more than 80% effective if used properly. The use of latex condom is one method of birth control that is the best ways to protect you from sexually transmitted diseases. They are easily available at a drug store or clinic without a prescription or a doctor's examination. There are different kinds of condoms available as lubricated, colored or flavored. Condoms protect individuals from sexually transmitted diseases during both vaginal and anal intercourse.

Few people find the use of condoms as a barrier in sexual intercourse that spoils the pleasure. Such people can use very thin latex condoms as they provide both pleasure and safety. Condoms are cheap as they do not cost much and give complete protection from pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases. Moreover there no side effects associated with it except minor allergies.

Those people who are not sure about there partners concerning sexual diseases the best method is the use of condoms. As condoms not only prevents from pregnancy but also from sexually transmitted diseases.
